A new model version with support for implicit tuplets

Engravers usually print the small "3" or "6" over the first triplet or sextuplet of a passage only, and leave the groups that follow it bare - the player is expected to carry the pattern on. Those unmarked groups are implicit tuplets: played as tuplets, with nothing printed to say so. They are very common in 19th-century editions, studies, and variations.

  • NewImplicit tuplets are now supported: they are reconstructed from the rhythm of the measure, instead of dropping notes to make the measure fit its time signature.
  • BetterFar fewer tuplets invented out of thin air - a tuplet is now written into your score only where a number is actually drawn on the page.
  • NewHangul titles and Korean performance directions are now recognized.
  • FixRehearsal marks attach to the measure they open rather than to the nearest note.
  • FixPlus a batch of smaller fixes to lyrics, chord symbols, instrument names, tablature, pickup measures, and score details.

A new model version focused on scanned music accuracy

A new version of our in-house model now powers every PDF and photo import, with 22% to 51% fewer errors on our scanned sheet music benchmarks. The gains are biggest on harder pages - older engravings and uneven print.

A new model version focused on notation fixes

An improved version of our in-house model now powers every PDF and photo import:

  • NewMulti-voice passages with shared rests and invisible rests are now supported.
  • NewTime signatures drawn across several staves, as on orchestral scores, are now recognized.
  • BetterBeams are recognized more reliably.
  • FixBarlines and repeat endings (voltas) are now placed correctly within measures.
  • FixFixed some chord symbols that were exported to MusicXML with a non-standard chord type.

Opuscan for Windows

  • NewOpuscan is now available on the Microsoft Store for Windows, alongside macOS, iPhone, iPad, and Android. Scan a page or open a PDF, and get an editable, playable score you can export to MusicXML or MIDI.

Notation and recognition improvements

  • NewClef changes in the middle of a measure are now recognized.

Opuscan for iPhone and iPad

  • NewOpuscan is now on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, joining macOS and Android. Photograph a page or open a PDF, and get an editable, playable score you can export to MusicXML or MIDI.

  • NewOpuscan now has dedicated apps for macOS and Android. Turn a PDF or photo of sheet music into an editable, playable score and export it to MusicXML or MIDI - ready for notation editors (MuseScore, Dorico, Sibelius, Finale) and DAWs (GarageBand, Logic Pro, Ableton Live).

Scanning is now available as a developer API

  • NewThe same in-house engine behind Opuscan is now available programmatically through the developer API. Send PDFs or photos, follow recognition progress, then export MusicXML or MIDI.

Notation and recognition improvements

  • NewCourtesy (cautionary) accidentals are now recognized.
  • FixFixed some multi-voice passages where the two voices share a rest.

Sharper page analysis for complex layouts

We've improved how scanning reads the layout of a page. Imports of PDFs and photos now produce cleaner, more accurate scores, especially on complex layouts:

  • BetterDense pages now split correctly. Pages with many short systems stacked together are detected separately, no longer merged.
  • BetterOrchestral and large-ensemble scores. Multi-staff instruments like piano and organ, and scores with many staves, are recognized more reliably.
  • BetterWide, landscape, and booklet layouts. Landscape pages no longer clip the left edge, and multi-page and booklet scans are handled correctly.
  • FixFewer stray detections. Spurious elements near page footers and margins are no longer picked up as music.

Notation and recognition improvements

  • NewCustom beaming patterns are now recognized and preserved on import.
  • NewBeams that span rests (note / rest / note) are now supported.
  • NewDetected jazz scores apply a jazz chord style and handwritten jazz music font automatically.

A more accurate model

Every PDF and photo import is now processed by Tutteo's own in-house model. This release is a major new version focused on transcription accuracy - musical correctness improves across every test set, with the largest gains in:

Text, dynamics, and layout placement are also more precise: lyrics, chord names, and dynamics attach more reliably to the correct notes, including on complex layouts like piano grand staves and parts with clef changes.

Our own AI model starts rolling out

We're rolling out Tutteo's own AI model for PDF and photo import, designed and trained in-house to replace the third-party engine used at launch. Owning the technology end to end lets us push accuracy further, broaden what we recognize, ship improvements faster, and align results with Tutteo's own notation format. This first release already reads much more of your music:

Broader notation coverage - newly recognized:

  • NewChord symbols, encoded with their musical meaning as editable chords - not just plain text
  • NewMeasure repeats and rhythm slashes
  • NewTempo and metronome markings (with BPM)

Lyrics and text in more languages. Lyrics, rehearsal marks, and other text in Latin-script languages by default, plus Japanese, Korean, and Chinese.

Truer to the original layout. Imports follow the source score's layout much more closely - measures per line, systems per page, and overall structure - making a real difference on large, complex scores and supporting more page formats, including landscape.
